Identification:  -Simple, oblong leaf with prominent veins and bristle tipped margins
-Leaves turn brown and persist through winter
-Abundant acorns with a hairy cap covering the nut

Note:   A native of Japan, this species has proved to be highly adapted and pest free in our region.  Sawtooth Oak has become a favorite species of wildlife managers  who plant the tree for the abundance of acorns to attract deer and other wildlife.
